GURU FROM GANGSTARR
I'm usually always on the run and my attention span is equivalent to a 5 year old, but I must take some time out to speak on my man Guru. He is currently fighting for his life after having a heart attack and just got out of surgery. I'm praying as well as the "real" hip-hop community for a speedy recovery.
Although a lot of cats front pretending to be down with Gangstarr since day one, claiming that they've been following the movement since Manifest..cmon son. But for me, the impact came once Step In The Arena hit stores. Days before downloading from the internet, you had to search out real shit. I remember hearing the song Step in The Arena and getting amped, the track was banging, Guru's lyrics were sick, but for me, the scratches that Premier hit every song with had me addicted. Ever since the days of hearing songs like UTFO's "Leader of the Pack" Run DMC's "Jam Master Jay" songs that had heavy scratches caught my interest. (I guess I should have been a djay) I religiously picked up every Gangstarr album since then, and felt connected to their music and movement.
Step in the Arena, Daily Operation, Hard To Earn, Group Home, Jeru all came out around this time period when hip-hop was at it's peak (in my opinion) Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito, Mayhem & Sunset NYC College radio was in effect, all those classic Big L radio rips you hear now on youtube, us New Yorkers were hearing him get busy LIVE, amazed at the direction the underground was going at that time. Hip-hop's code of ethics was enforced and corn ball rap wasn't tolerated as it is now. My mind state is still in that era, it impacted me soo much I refuse to be brainwashed with whats going on now, not like the rest of you. But for me, Gangstarr set the standard for that movement. They're music spoke volumes, without talking shit, Gangstarr's music put suckers (and the industry) in their place. I remember visiting Los Angeles right when Moment of Truth dropped, and Power 106 had Gangstarr on as a special guest. I remember the radio djays commented saying.."Gangstarr is in the building, and that the vibe in the studio was extremely serious." Just the appearance of Guru and Premier together on the scene gave off the vibe that its time for Real Shit, no bullshit.
In the background, Verbal Threat (Kool Sphere & M.C. Reppond) we were making our moves on the underground scene, but never wanted to be associated with anyone ever other than Gangstarr. For us, they were the perfect definition of what true hip-hop is. As years passed, things happened for a reason, and we were connected to Guru and Premier on several occasions..to eventually going on tour with Guru and of course recording the classic track "Reality Check" with Dj Premier.
So with all that being said, we're REALLY pulling for Guru's safe return back to perfect health, to his family, and finally back to music. He's a stand up dude, extremely talented, and us over here at Verbal Threat have him in our prayers on the daily. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers, and remember, it's emcees like Guru that brought respect back to hip-hop..we'd love to see him back in action, and of course a Gangstarr re-union. Stay strong money grips!

CON-ART STORE/GALLERY OPENING HOLLYWOOD
Friday night the official store/gallery opening of Con-Art Hollywood California. Special guests in the house, yours truly Kool Sphere, Luze FC, and Stane Cwb..we showcased a couple panel pieces..and did some live female body painting on a couple lovely young ladies. Epic time I must say. Sadly the sho ended in true LA fashion with someone getting shot in the stomach in the back of the store. Cmon son, it's 2010...snuff all that hate out. word up..enjoy the flicks

NEW RAEKWON A MUST HAVE!!
Now if you know me, you'd know that I think hip-hop for the most part has suffered a horrible loss of originality, I turned off fm rdio over 5 years ago, It's a damn shame for real, the game turned to a money game where artists chase the money to stay revelant instead of being true to the music, Whatever, it's like beating a dead horse thats why I never speak on it anymore unless politicking with my man Reppond. With that being said...
I give a BIG shout to Raekwon the Chef for lacing this bonus track that screams originality, with a banging track and in depth story line rhymes..you know, Classic Rae. I've had this on repeat, do the knowledge and enjoy.

REST IN PEACE DJ. MR. MAGIC NYC RADIO LEGEND!
Mr. Magic, an important figure in the world of hip-hop radio, debuted in 1983 on WBLS-FM in New York City with the first exclusive rap radio show to be aired on a major station. Billing itself as Rap Attack, Magic's show featured Marley Marl as the DJ and Tyrone "Fly Ty" Williams as the show's co-producer. Magic's reign on the New york City airwaves lasted six years and was instrumental in broadening the scope and validity of hip-hop music.[1]
During the mid-80s there was a rivalry between Mr. Magic and Kool DJ Red Alert, who hosted a weekly show on WRKS-FM. The feud also played out between proxy rap groups, the Juice Crew and Boogie Down Productions (see The Bridge Wars). The Juice Crew - headed by Mr. Magic's on-air assistant, DJ Marley Marl - was named after one of Magic's aliases, "Sir Juice."[2]
As confirmed by DJ Premier, Mr. Magic died on the morning of October 2, 2009,[3] from a fatal heart attack

It's a wrap! The album is finally done! I was fortunate enough to get the lovely and talented Rhona Bennett from En Vogue to get on the final track for the album "Creative Control". She just finished her upcoming solo album "The Anticipation Of R&B" so most def go check that out when it drops. We previewed it at her listening party Downtown Los Angeles, below are some flicks from the event, I busted out a lil canvas for her in celebration of such a dope project.

NEW VERBAL THREAT ALBUM BEGINS!!!
It's been a minute waiting on the completion of Kool Sphere's solo album Integritty. We're finally there with this classic masterpiece getting mixed arranged and mastered!
With that being said...Kool Sphere and M.C. Reppond are officially back in the building! Verbal Threat will begin a new album starting this weekend entering into the studio officially in Hollywood. History in the making right now straight up!
